Saint John Fire Department partners with Praxair for annual hazmat training exercise

14-Jun-2019

(Saint John, NB) The City would like to notify the public of an upcoming Saint John Fire Department hazardous materials (Hazmat) training exercise scheduled to take place at the Praxair carbon dioxide production facility, 430 Grandview Avenue, on Monday, June 17.

During the exercise, the Saint John Fire Department’s Regional Hazmat Team will partner with Praxair to conduct a series of drills using various tools and equipment. All exercise scenarios will take place within the Grandview Avenue facility and surrounding gated area.

The public can expect to see a full deployment of Fire and Hazmat personnel at the site throughout the day. Traffic will not be disrupted during the exercise, and participating first responders will not be responding with lights and sirens.

This annual training exercise is conducted as a joint operation with Praxair staff and supports the preparedness and response capabilities of the Saint John Fire Department’s Regional Hazmat Team. The City’s Hazmat team has been established since 1991 and provides a planned response to incidents across New Brunswick where the public are exposed to risks created from a release of or fire involving hazardous materials.
