Saint John Water offers COVID-19 payment relief options for customers

24-Mar-2020

Saint John Water is providing customers in need with a Payment Deferral Program in an effort to ease the financial strain felt by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency.

“As an essential service in our community, Saint John Water is committed to delivering safe, reliable drinking water and wastewater services to customers,” said Commissioner of Saint John Water, Brent McGovern. “The Payment Deferral Program is intended to support citizens and businesses that need it the most in our community.”

The Payment Deferral Program will take effect immediately, and enable residents and businesses experiencing unexpected financial hardships to defer payments toward their water and sewer account for close to two months with no late payment charges or interest charges applied.

Despite the due date of April 8, 2020 referenced on the recently sent bills (for flat rate customers) and April 17, 2020 (for metered rate customers), both customers will have a period of up to May 31, 2020 to make payments and avoid interest, a decision that aligns with other extensions granted by Canadian utilities as part of the COVID-19 crisis.

“Our team is ready to work with customers to make reasonable payment arrangements that provide enhanced flexibility during this difficult time,” adds McGovern.

If you have been impacted by COVID-19 and are experiencing financial hardship, please contact Billing and Collections at , or if you don't have email, call (506) 652-1960 to discuss payment arrangements available to you.

In addition to the Payment Deferral Program, Saint John Water has suspended any disconnection of water service for non-payment until further notice.
