SJ-EMO Hurricane Dorian Update, including road closures and important contact and safety information


Saint John EMO remained in Level 1 – Enhanced Monitoring throughout the day and has elevated activation to a Level 3 as of 8 p.m. to allow for enhanced coordination of partner/agency resources and response capabilities.

Residents are advised to stay home and off the roads.                                                                                         
Road Closure Update

Other areas may be impacted as roads become obstructed and reports are being received by the minute. Avoid any areas covered in water, downed trees, power and communication lines, poles, or debris. Check back for updates. 

Crews from all agencies are responding, including Fire, Police, Transportation & Environment Services, Saint John Energy.

Some signs and barricades are not staying in place due to high winds. Please continue to exercise good judgement and extreme caution.

There are also a number of trees that have fallen in City parks and squares.

Stay safe! The Saint John Police remind motorists to not drive around the barricades that are in place for the roads that are closed. There is a lot of water on some roads.  Reduce speeds to avoid hydroplaning‎.

Crews are monitoring roads closely and will reopen them once conditions improve.

Help keep our crews and first responders safe by reducing speeds and remaining a safe distance from any active site.

There are approximately 3,800 customers without power at this time, mainly on the east and west sides of the City, without an estimated restoration time. Saint John Energy crews continue to address safety calls first; downed wires, fires etc. Power outages are reported through Saint John Energy’s Outage Map. 

Reports are being received for flooded basements. Fire crews are responding to structure fires and several fires due to power line and transformer interference and damage.

Saint John Water crews are monitoring wastewater and drinking water treatment facilities. There are no impacts to customers at this time. Any impacts will be communicated through the City.
