Statement from the City of Saint John: Employment assistance resources

07-Feb-2020

The City has been informed by Saputo that in early 2021 they will be closing their Millidge Avenue facility, which will result in job losses for close to 60 people. This type of news is always difficult to hear, and our thoughts immediately went to the employees and families impacted by the closure.

At this time, there are over 570 local jobs posted through the NB Job Bank with hundreds more expected throughout the year.

We know that people in our community will be looking for work and want to ensure that they are aware of the many resources available to support the transition to new employment opportunities here in Saint John. Employment assistance resources are provided by local service providers and support agencies and include free employment counselling, skills development and re-training, resume writing and interview preparation, a comprehensive job bank, and an employee/employer match program. Regular job fairs are also organized within the city. This offer of support is available 12 months of the year to anyone looking for employment in and around Saint John.

For information on accessing available programs, we encourage job seekers, and employers, to visit www.lifeinsaintjohn.ca. To access employment services in person, visit the local Working NB Office at 1 Agar Place, Saint John, NB E2L 4Y9 from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or call (506) 643-7258.
