Winter is on its way! Make sure you know the parking rules before the snow flies

Winter parking rules in the City of Saint John

If you live in the North, East and West areas of the City you are reminded that on street parking is allowed unless a parking ban is called by the City or unless otherwise prohibited by on-street signage and the Motor Vehicle Act.

An overnight, on-street parking ban in the North, East and West parts of the City will be called when snow clearing is required. The parking ban is referred to as the “North, East and West Temporary Overnight Parking Ban”.

The only area of the City exempt from the North, East and West parking ban is the South Central Peninsula, where separate on-street parking bans will be called by the City if and when required.
Be in the know:

The City will advise all residents through, local media, Facebook (@CityofSaintJohnNB) and Twitter (@cityofsaintjohn) when parking bans are called. To receive notifications direct to email, we encourage you to sign up to receive City News. You can also call the parking ban information line at 658-4040 to find out if there is a ban in your neighbourhood. Should a ban be declared, the City’s website, information line and local media will all be updated by 3:45 p.m.

How to prepare:

Citizens have a responsibility to secure off-street parking and to seek information on when parking bans are declared.

If you rely on on-street parking in the North, East and West parts of the City, you must make alternate off-street parking arrangements.

If you live in the South Central Peninsula, six off-street parking lots will be available for overnight parking only when a ban is in place. Please click here for a list.

Please note that the lot at Mecklenburg Street and Wentworth Street is no longer a designated parking ban lot.

The City thanks everyone for their cooperation as efforts are made to enhance the snow clearing service.
