Saint John Heritage Conservation Areas By-Law Amendment

Public Notice is hereby given that the Common Council of The City of Saint John intends to consider amending the Saint John Heritage Conservation Areas By-Law (By-Law HC-1) at its regular meeting to be held in the Ludlow Room, City Hall, on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 6:30 p.m., by:

  • Making general housekeeping changes, including but not limited to the definitions and schedules in the By-Law, affecting all properties designated as being in a Heritage Conservation Area as defined through Schedules A through K inclusive;
  • Revising provisions regarding the demolition of buildings in the Heritage Conservation Areas, affecting all properties designated as being in a Heritage Conservation Area as defined through Schedules A through K inclusive;
  • Revising provisions around exemptions from Heritage Permits in Heritage Conservation Areas, affecting all properties designated as being in a Heritage Conservation Area as defined through Schedules A through K inclusive;
  • Removing from the By-Law all properties within the King Street West Heritage Conservation Area, as identified in Schedule G of the By-Law:

    3. 291 King Street West (PID No. 00361303)
    4. 293 King Street West (PID No. 00361311)
    5. 300-302 King Street West (PID No. 00361402)
    6. 313-315 King Street West (PID No. 00361329)
    7. 317 King Street West (PID No. 00361337)
    8. PID No. 00361394
    9. PID No. 00361386
    10. PID No. 00418004;
  • Considering the designation of the property located at 152 Watson Street (PID No. 00362350) in the City of Saint John, and;
  •  Making an amendment regarding the allowable height and stepbacks for a proposed development at the southwest corner of Canterbury Street and Grannan Street, on the parcels of land known as PID Nos. 00011130, 00018598, 55102453, 55102446, and 55102438.

To remove certain properties from a Heritage Conservation Area, to consider the designation of a property, to clarify the existing By-Law, and to provide for the safe and effective maintenance of designated heritage properties.

The proposed amendment may be inspected by any interested person at the office of the Common Clerk, or in the office of Growth and Community Development Services, City Hall, 15 Market Square, Saint John, N.B. between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, inclusive, holidays excepted.

Written objections to the amendment may be sent to the undersigned at City Hall.
