Little Red School House

Site preparations adjacent to Loyalist Plaza are set to begin this summer to prepare the site for the future home of the New Brunswick Museum.

As a result of this highly-anticipated development, and the work required to prepare the site for the sale of the City-owned property, three aged and vacant structures in the immediate construction area will need to be removed.

While plans are underway to demolish two of the buildings, there is an immediate, short-term option available to relocate the third: the Red School House.

The former school house was gifted to the City from its original location in Gagetown from Saint John District 20 Branch of the NB Teacher’s Association in 1969. It has been repurposed throughout the years and has most recently been used as storage space.

Any third party interested in taking ownership of the former school house would be required to relocate the structure from the site, in its current state.

To stay within site construction timelines, the structure must be removed from the site, whether by a third party or demolition, between July 15 and August 3, 2018.

Please note that all costs and work associated with relocating the structure would be the responsibility of the new owner. Cost considerations include, but are not limited to, a structural integrity assessment, professional mover fees, insurance and required permits. There would be no cost associated with the transfer of ownership.

Interested parties can contact 654-1594.

Response deadline: Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 4 p.m.
