Saint John welcomes new Common Council, names Deputy Mayor

Members of the new Saint John Common Council were joined by family, friends, and residents at an official Swearing-In Ceremony prior to their first Council meeting on Monday, June 1.

The City of Saint John Common Council includes:

  • Mayor Donna Noade Reardon
  • Deputy Mayor (2026-2028), Ward 2: John MacKenzie
  • Deputy Mayor (2028-2030), Councillor at Large: Gary Sullivan
  • Councillor at Large: Gina Hooley
  • Ward 1: Greg Norton
  • Ward 1: Sherri Colwell-McCavour
  • Ward 2: Brian Wyatt
  • Ward 3: Eric Savoie
  • Ward 3: Ryan Moore
  • Ward 4: Paul Dempsey
  • Ward 4: David Merrithew

During the meeting, Council unanimously supported motions brought forward by the Mayor to suspend the Procedural Bylaw for the purpose of appointing the Deputy Mayors for the current term. Council appointed Councillor John MacKenzie as Deputy Mayor for the first two years of the term, and Councillor Gary Sullivan as Deputy Mayor for the final two years.  

The Deputy Mayor supports the work of Council and fulfills the duties of the Mayor when required, including presiding over meetings in the Mayor’s absence and representing the City at official functions.
